Staged Affair - free summer courses at Caisa Cultural Center for 7–12 year olds
Two separate dates to choose from
● Summer course 1 / week 23 Mon-Fri 6.-10.6. 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
● Summer course 2 / week 24 Mon-Fri 13.-17.6. 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
● Courses are free, but require a commitment to attend for the whole week.
Welcome to the fun and playful Caisa summer course!
The summer course considers the concept of safe space through media and performing arts. For a space to feel safe, what sort of place should it be? What sort of things happen there and what sort of things should not happen there? Through what means, can a safe place be achieved for all?
During the course, a play or performance is planned and implemented in groups through play. Participants reflect on their own understanding of a safe space. Children write scripts in groups. Plays are rehearsed and finally the plays are videotaped and edited into a finished video work.
We’ll take a look at the main stages of making a play, including staging, costumes, shooting, and video editing with easy editing software. We get to know acting and performing through physical exercises and play. The purpose is to explore how does a safe place feel to oneself. What does it look like and how to find one’s own place in such a space?
The course is open for everyone and does not require prior knowledge. Completed performances will be distributed to participants at the end of the course.
The languages of instruction are Finnish and English.

Course schedule
• Children are welcomed in the Caisa's lobby. 9.45-10. a.m.
• Course program 10-11.45 a.m.
• Lunch and meal break 11.45 a.m. -12.15 p.m.
• Course program 12.15-2. p.m.
• Parents will pick up the children from the Caisa lobby at 2 p.m.
What to bring with you?
• Water bottle.
• Lunch. The Caisa has a fridge and microwave for lunch storage and heating.
• If a child wants to buy something from our café, you can reserve a small amount of money for her/him.
